***Changing weather (particularly cooler weather) can
cause injuries to dancers if we are not properly warmed
up. Please ensure dancers punctuality to classes (and
rehearsals) to help prevent injury. Dancers who are
more than 5 minutes late to a class may be asked to
observe class that day in order to prevent injury (this is
left to the instructor’s discretion).
SCHOOL POLICIES 2017-18
FEES, DISCOUNTS, AND TUITION
- Payment is due on the first lesson of the month.
Tuition is the SAME every month. August's tuition includes December (and a free week!) Full tuition is charged regardless of whether there are 3, 4, or 5 weeks in that month.
Registration Fees: $65/NEW STUDENT INCLUDES UNIFORM OF LEOTARD AND TIGHTS.$35/CONTINUING PER STUDENT FOR UP TO TWO IN A FAMILY INCLUDES UNIFORM OF LEOTARD AND TIGHTS. $30/CONTINUING PER STUDENT FOR THREE OR MORE IN A FAMILY INCLUDES UNIFORM OF LEOTARD AND TIGHTS.
5% discount on total monthly tuition for two or more from the same immediate family or multiple classes except VDC class
Option for Adult classes: $15/class OR 10-punch card = $120
Single class (first time only) $15.
There are NO REFUNDS for ANY fees paid.
Limited scholarships are available based on need.
Additional costs during the year include costumes and performance fees for the May show, photos and DVD (if desired). Nutcracker participants have similar fees.
- Put checks payable to Canyon Dance Academy in the black tuition box just inside the door of the studio.
Note your child’s first and last name and class day/time on the check for ease in accounting.
DO NOT give your payments to your teacher.
No cash payments will be accepted.
$25.00 fee charged for all returned checks.
A LATE FEE of $10.00 per student will be applied after the first lesson is complete. All payments are applied to the oldest balance first (including any late fees incurred). If you are late, the late fees will automatically be calculated and added to your outstanding balance.
Statements will only be distributed on accounts that are past due or if requested.
Late notices will now be included in the statements.

We do NOT cancel for other holidays.
There is a make-up day each semester. Time/date TBA
Snow Day Notice:
The studio will not necessarily be closed when schools are closed due to weather. The weather changes so rapidly in Flagstaff that it may be cleared up and nice by the afternoon. We do not usually cancel on snow days. Check our Facebook page for immediate updates. Please use your own judgment when deciding to come to class if the weather is questionable. If we do cancel, we try to call the students in advance.
It is imperative that the students are in class in order for them to learn. Be on time and ready to dance. Dancers should arrive no more than 10-15 minutes early and be picked up promptly. When enrolled, the dancer has a spot reserved in their class until the end of the dance year in May. In order to change or withdraw from classes, written notice must be given before the 1st of the month before tuition is processed or the full month's tuition will be due. There are no individual make-up lessons given. If there is an extended illness, contact the teacher. We offer two general make-up classes – one over the Christmas Break and one during Spring Break.
See specific dress codes and uniforms for all classes on the Dress Code page. Students who are not dressed properly for dance will not be allowed to participate in class! They will be given two warnings and on the third time will be asked to sit out of class. If the dancers want to excel, the teachers must be able to see and correct their bodies. Appropriate dancewear must be worn.
*Please provide a dance bag for clothes & shoes and MARK ALL CLOTHING, BAGS, AND SHOES WITH STUDENT'S NAME. Please, no extra "luggage." Leg warmers are fine. Sweats and tee shirts are to be removed unless it is extremely cold inside the studio, and should be removed as it warms up. It is difficult to correct a body we can’t see. Lost and found items are donated to charity throughout the year.
Canyon Dance Academy publishes a parent newsletter each month. This letter contains the lesson theme for the month, notes about upcoming events, etc. E-mail communication saves trees and money. Please keep your e-mail listing with CDA updated. You can also get updates on our Facebook Page and the website.
Experience has shown that visitors inside the studio distract from the classes. Parents are welcome to wait in the waiting area if they or other visitors are not distracting to the students. We have a “parents’ day” twice a year where you can join us in the studio. We also have "Bring-a-friend" day each semester.
No pets inside the studio.
Absolutely NO food, drink or gum allowed in the studio except bottled water. This includes the waiting area. Parents, please don't bring food or drinks into the studio for yourself or siblings.
We are planning our big studio performance in May. We also have a parents’ days in October and January, where parents can observe and participate with their children. The Velocity Dance Company performs more often during the year.
Performance/Concert costs: There is a performance fee per family to cover the expenses of producing a show.
Costume Policy: Generally the students purchase their own costumes for the Spring performance.
